What's up out there Columbus Land? Just letting you all know that we'll be on the corner of Gay St. and High St. this Monday and Tuesday. As opposed to our customary winter Wednesday and Thursday schedule. However, I'm feeling pretty sick tonight so there is a possibility that I won't make it out tomorrow. I will be posting on the blog if that is indeed the case. Cool? cool. That's it for now. Have a good night!

Sorry everyone, but it's just too dang cold to set up Monday. I'll try and be out on Tuesday but, we'll see. Check back here to get the scoop.

Team Rad Dog

Sunday, December 7, 2008

O.K. so the winter schedule is in motion. I'm switching to only 2 days a week for lunch downtown. I'll be there on the corner of gay and high Wednesdays and Thursdays. I'll be filling the rest of the week with a sweet job at pattycake! I'll be delivering their wholesale orders via bicycle. (thanks for the hookup jennie and sarah!). Keep an eye out for all the winter events at which Rad Dog! will be vending.
I also wanted to get some feed back on my downtown location. I've been kicking around the idea of moving one block south for a while now. I've scoped out a spot on the corner of Broad and High in front of the Huntington building. My thinking on this is simply that there is WAY more foot traffic right there. And while the majority of my business is loyal patrons like yourselves seeking me out and not walk by customers, I think the exposure of that many people seeing me out there would be helpful. Let me know what your thoughts are on the idea.
That's the update. I will be trying to blog more, so stay tuned.

thanks everyone,
michael tawd bell

BRRRRRRRR. . .

Well, I'm sitting here sipping coffee on, what's supposed to be , the coldest day of the year so far. To be honest, I'm having to psych myself up a bit to get out on that windy corner this morning. I will be there though, although I'll probably be a little late; something like 10:30 as opposed to 10. And I'll be there till 2ish. So a bit abbreviated but out there anyway.

I wanted to apologize for not getting an email out this week. It's been crazy and it totally slipped my mind. Sorry 'bout that.

Also, I realize that my base of awesome Rad Dog patrons is still growing and our little business is still fairly fledgling. So, understandably, the cold weather has already seen a decent decline in my weekly, downtown business. My thought at this point is that I my need to scale back down town to about 2 days a week 'till spring. And I would find supplementary revenue streams to fill in the gap. I'd like to put it out there to you guys and ask what you think I should do. Should I scale back? What other work could I do? Are there other Rad Dog related ways to fill in the winter gap? Any ideas would be really appreciated. And since I work for myself, I really work for you guys. So, that's about it. hope to here from everyone.

Shalom,
Tawd

Holy Effing Ess!

Daaaaaaang there's a lot of stuff coming up! Check out the side bar action for a crazy amount of amazing, upcoming events. It's about time to talk with Hermione about borrowing that time turner so's we can fit in things like sleeping and doing laundry.
It's been a while since I've posted, so I just wanted to give shout outs to both Independent's Day and Urban Scrawl. Super fantastic events and seriously fun times. Thanks a TON to all of the organizers!
While I'm shouting out, I want to acknowledge one of the most amazing new stores in Columbus, AmyD's. I'm working there on Fridays from 12-1:30 and Saturdays from 11-7, so after finding Tawd and getting your faux dog fix, come see me and BUY COOL HANDMADE CLOTHES!!!
Peace, love, and wieners,
Sharon

Did you say FREE!!!

That's right! FREE!!! On Monday and Tuesday of this week Tawd will be setting up in front of Huntington Bank near the OSU campus for back-to-school week. On Monday it will be the 17th and High location and on Tuesday it will be the South Campus Gateway location (we might even be able to push the cart from our house for that one!). The first 100 customers each day will get a free hot dog courtesy of the good folks at Huntington. Sorry toppings fans, ketchup and mustard only on Huntington days. It's not like they're made of money... Oh, wait...
But how cool is Huntington for getting Rad Dog! instead of meat dog? You go, Huntington!

Day Two, Coming UP!!!

Via Colori was so much fun yesterday. We got to set up next to two new BFF's from Liberte Crepes (unfortunately they won't be there today) and see lots of old friends as well. If you haven't gotten a chance to see the amazing sidewalk art, come on down, take a look, and have some LUNCH!!!

Remember, Tawd won't be downtown tomorrow due to his long weekend, but he'll be at the regular spot from Tuesday through Friday.

Thanks! Wieners!

Coming Soon!!!

The Reuben Dog! Kielbasa, sauerkraut, grilled onions, home-made thousand island dressing on rye! OMG! Why didn't we think of this sooner? We'll get our supplies together and hopefully launch it by Via Colori!

Don't forget, this Saturday is Pattycake Day!

Here's the contest quiz (winner gets a free lunch on Pattycake Day only, don't reply if you can't make it!)...
FAMOUS VEGANS...If you've been watching certain news threads, this one should be easy.
Who said... "I don't like to associate with meat eaters at all, so I don't like to be with them in restaurants. So I'd rather be in a vegan restaurant."
I hate controversy, so I don't think I could ever say something so "in your face", but this is a person (hint) who's been around for a while, and he/she looks like he/she could totally kick an ass if he/she needed to. Oh, and think "Ohio".
Be the first to respond correctly in the comments section, and lunch is on us!

Monday @ the Courthouse!

We've had several requests to set up near the courthouse, so we're gonna do a little guest appearance on Monday (we'll be at the regular spot for the rest of the week). The courthouse "proper" is prime vending territory, and you have to win a vendor "lottery" to park there, so we'll be sort of close. We'll be on the east side of High, 1/2 a block north of Mound (just south of Main). Clear as ketchup? Hopefully we won't piss off any indigenous vendors. It could get ugly. Bring your cameras...

So here you are...

So as I've mentioned, our little budget website had only a short while left to live, and I couldn't bear to see it suffer, so I BUMPED IT OFF! (o.k., maybe that's like 1/2 funny, 1/2 really warped). ANYwho, welcome to the blog. Everything you need to know is still in the sidebar. You can also comment from time to time so that we all feel like a family (because that's just how families communicate).

Effin' AAAAAAAAAA!!!

Brand spankin' new article in the Columbus Dispatch! Have you read it??? Thanks a million, Kevin Joy!!!

Also, don't forget about Craftin' Outlaws this Saturday! Tawd's taking the weekend off from wieners to help run another event, but I'll be there helping out and doing some serious shopping. PLUS, our favorite bakery, Pattycake, will be there with your early morning (and elevensies, and so on, and so on) sugar fix! Oh, sticky buns, how I long for you!

The Rad Dog! Menu

Wiener Song!!!

I've been looking for a way to share this wonderful song, but alas, I cannot for the life of me find a downloadable version anywhere! But here's something I found on Youtube. We don't know these folks, but they bring you a small slice of wiener lore! Free drink in August for anyone who sings it at the stand!

Other news... We'll be moving the website here to the blog sometime next week (when I say next week, I really mean sometime this month). We just like the feel of the blog (plus Google is doing away with the template that we currently use for the website). You'll still be able to use the raddogveg.com url. It will just take you here instead.

More soon!

Sharon

Rad Dog Blitz!

Through a series of unusual posts (thanks largely to Amy D, Mike Reed, and Walker Evans), there's a Columbus Underground meetup today at 1:00 at the stand near the corner of Gay and High. Are you coming???

I Heart Press

I'm a little late to post this, but Rad Dog! has been getting noticed! This is super exciting!!! First, we were featured in the cover story of last week's Alive article about hot dogs (ask Tawd about that, it's a true story of divine intervention), THEN some amazing folks, Jim, Mary, and Zach, from Columbus Foodcast came by the Pattycake opening on July 12th and taped a mini podcast. It's super fun to listen to (o.k., I'm biased)!
Thanks everyone for all of your support (I can't say this enough). This venture really seems to be working! YAY!
See you at the stand!
Sharon

Oh, and don't forget to stop by KidzArtz tomorrow!!!

THANK YOU!!!

Tawd and I were so utterly verklempt at the response to our grand opening today at Pattycake Vegan Bakery. We had NO idea what to expect. We were greeted with huge amounts of love and support today which makes this investment and sacrifice totally worth it. We especially want to thank Jennie and Seth from Pattycake for hosting the event and for all of the help making our little business possible. We also want to thank Sarah (also from Pattycake) for just being so incredibly Rad. And Mike and Heather, you guys totally Rock!? Thanks also to Daniel from Skreened. You are so amazing, and I can't wait to hang out more with your new little family.
And for everyone else who came out today and for all of you who have shown your support thus far, we are SOOOO blessed to have you be a part of this experience with us. We look forward to a long, rad future together.
Tawd and Sharon
